A guide to choosing a wedding band just right for you.

Wedding Rings

Wedding rings symbolise love and commitment within a relationship, so it is important to find one that you will cherish forever. Your wedding rings are designed to be yours and worn for life, hopefully, so choosing the perfect wedding ring can, therefore, be a bit overwhelming.

There are plenty of designs and styles to choose from and I often suggest people look around and try some on, to see how they feel when worn.

I try to make the decisions easy and enjoyable for the couple when they visit my shop, in Tunbridge Wells. The woman often already has her engagement ring, so the wedding band I will be making for her, needs to fit and compliment her engagement ring perfectly.

Classic Tradition Wedding Bands

Often my customers decide on a simple, traditional, classic wedding band that will not date in the years ahead. Plain, polished, or matte gold bands, are very beautiful and also practical. Bespoke Wedding Bands

Other customers want something completely personal to them and a big design statement. Here is a bespoke, all-in-one wedding and engagement band, we made which was totally bling, covered in Diamonds. The ring is very wide and has to be worn solo, we used fifteen of their family diamonds in this ring, making it very personal and connected to their families .

Catherine's Popular Bobbled Stacking Rings

My Mini, Midi and Maxi Bobble Stacking rings are a very popular option from my collection for wedding bands. They are still timeless but the small dotty texture, which is a signature of my work, makes them distinctive and unusual.

Ring Size

It is vital to get the rings to fit perfectly; if they are too tight they are uncomfortable and bad for your circulation and if too loose, there is a chance, especially in the winter, it could come off and be lost. Ideally I like to size the customers finger myself, then I can be sure it is the correct size, as I am responsible for the fit being perfect. If this is not possible, then I ask them to visit their local jewellers and ask them to do it for me. Most jewellers are happy to help with this. An alternative option, if the first two are not possible, is to buy a plastic white ring sizer from the internet, like one you can see in the image below.

Plain Gold Wedding Bands

This couple wanted different wedding bands from each other, in style and metal colour. His is a flat 18ct white gold band, with rounded sides, her's a thin round profile 18ct yellow gold band, to sit with her delicate vintage engagement ring. I always stress to the couples that is more important that they have what they like and what suits them, then have them matching.

Here are two 9ct white gold bands, a wide blended court for him, and a thinner court shaped band for her. Blended court rings are slightly domed on the outside with a rounded inside for a comfort fit. A court profile is the most traditional shape for wedding bands. It has a softly rounded interior and exterior profile, which sits harmoniously on the finger. This rounded shape means that court profile rings will feel very comfortable to wear.

This 18ct yellow gold, mans wedding band is one of my own patterns and its made from oval wire. It has a lovely heavy feel, as being oval, it is chunky in its depth.

Hammered Gold Wedding Bands

This pair of rings in 18ct white gold bands, have been hammered to give it some texture.

A, D-shaped wedding ring has a flat inner surface that sits comfortably against the finger and a rounded, domed outer surface, resembling the letter D in cross - section. This profile is a classic and popular choice, offering a comfortable, snug fit while providing a substantial look with its curved exterior, that suits various designs and partners well, with engagement rings.

Wedding Bands Set with A Diamond

Two hammered 9ct white gold wedding bands, both my patterns; his wide very chunky ring; hers similar but smaller in proportion. Hers is set with a diamond in a gypsy setting

A gypsy setting (or flush setting) is a jewellery technique where a stone is set directly into a tapered hole in the metal, sitting flush with the surface without prongs, making it secure and ideal for everyday wear. Popular since the Victorian era, it features a smooth, modern, and minimalist look, often used for diamonds, rubies, and sapphires.

Bobbled Stacking Wedding Rings

This couple wanted both their rings to be made in platinum, but different designs. His a simple classic plain wide 5mm court shaped band and for her, my own midi-bobbled stacking ring design.

Recycled Gold Wedding Rings

This pair of rose gold wedding bands were made from melting unwanted family jewellery, which made them even more special. His, a twig ring and hers a maxi-bobbled stacking ring.

Rose Gold Wedding Bands

This couple wanted a particular width band for him, to match her midi-bobbled stacking ring. It needed to be wider so a special pattern was made for his band. Here are the finished pair of 9ct rose gold wedding rings. The rose gold is so striking on the right person with the correct skin tone.

Different Wedding Rings

This couple wanted very different rings, one is a flat matte 18ct white gold ring, flush set with a diamond. The other a polished 18ct red-gold heavy twig ring. I love the fact both the rings have such different personalities, for the two woman who wear them.

Here is a lovely image kindly sent by a couple on their wedding day. She is wearing a bespoke pink Sapphire engagement ring flanked with small diamonds that I made for her. Her wedding band is, flush set with diamonds. His is a Catherine Hills oval pattern ring in 18ct yellow gold.

Silver Wedding Rings

There is no reason that a wedding band cannot be made in silver; the colour is different and it is the only metal that can be oxidised dark and some men particularly like this look.

This couple wanted silver rings to celebrate their marriage, hers a plain slim sliver band with a small 9ct gold bead on top. His ring is my oxidised silver concertina ring.

All-in-one wedding and engagement ring

Some people, me included, like to have one wide, more dramatic ring, as a combined wedding and engagement ring. This bride chose a bespoke version of my branch ring set with five diamonds for her special ring. Her husband a wide flat hammered 9ct gold ring. Bespoke Leaf Band

Recycling Two Special Rings Belonging To His Late Mother.

These precious white gold wedding bands belonged to his late mother, so I had them melted and cast into one of my own wedding ring patterns.
