Alternative Romantic Jewellery for Modern Love: Handmade British Designs with Meaning
In a world of mass-produced accessories, artisan jewellery offers something increasingly rare: individuality, craftsmanship and meaning. As an independent British jeweller based in Kent, I design and handcraft jewellery from my Tunbridge Wells atelier, using traditional techniques, carefully selected materials and a slow, considered process. Every piece of jewellery I create is finished by hand, one at a time, ensuring quality, longevity, and character.
Romantic jewellery has long been associated with tradition, diamond engagement rings, classic wedding bands and heart-shaped pendants and earrings. However as an artisan British jeweller, hand-making my jewellery in Kent, I create pieces designed to celebrate love in all its forms, beyond traditional expectations. I want my jewellery to be more personal, unique and intentional.
I work with precious metals such as gold and sterling silver, often incorporating recycled materials and try to use responsibly sourced stones. The result is jewellery that reflects individuality, which is tactile, and quietly expressive.
With Valentine's Day around the corner, I wanted to share some personal designs that offer an alternative perspective on a romantic gift, or love token.
A Modern Symbol of Love and Wisdom
This handcrafted, 'Owl Heart' amulet pendant, is made from hallmarked Sterling Silver and symbolises love, wisdom, and guidance. Inspired by the African Adinkra symbol Odo Nyera Fie Kwan, meaning “love always finds its way home”, and the ancient mythology of owls, this artisan silver pendant carries deep symbolic meaning. Set with two rich red rubies, long associated with love, passion, and protection, this silver heart necklace is designed as a modern talisman.

Graphic Kiss Cross Jewellery for the Modern Romantic
The Kiss Cross collection is a contemporary design that's perfect for Valentine’s Day, as it is inspired by love, connection and unity. Featuring a necklace, ring, bracelet and earrings, each piece is formed from a pair of linked kisses creating a clean, geometric symbol of romance. Hand-finished with care, this elegant jewellery collection, offers a modern alternative to traditional Valentine’s gifts.

Celebrating the 'Perfectly Imperfect' Nature of Love
This Two Part Heart pendant is a meaningful alternative to traditional Valentine’s Day jewellery. Designed as a heart divided into two halves, with one side decorated with my signature bobble texture, it symbolises connection, vulnerability and love made whole. The pendant hangs from a sterling silver trace chain with a secure bolt ring fastening, making it ideal for everyday wear. Originally created for a British Heart Foundation exhibition, this design tells a deeper story of love’s fragility, emotional pain and the powerful bonds formed through human connection.

Romantic Earrings that are a Modern Classic
Love knots have been used in jewellery for centuries as symbols of enduring connection and commitment. With no visible beginning or end, the love knot represents continuity, devotion, and the lasting bond between lovers. This powerful symbol appears in ancient Egyptian carvings, Greek jewellery, and Celtic art, making it one of the oldest romantic motifs in design. My interpretation reimagines the love knot as modern stud earrings or cufflinks, finished with a subtle, textured surface that catches the light, an elegant and meaningful alternative romantic jewellery gift for Valentine’s Day.

A Love Token with a Kent Connection
My 'hope' pendant is a love token that represents my home county of Kent. Kent is rich in inspiring makers and in natural produce and for me the 'humble hop' is synonymous with the county’s essence. Long associated with Kent, hops have a history rooted in herbal medicine, as well as in brewing beer, one of Britain’s most loved drinks. As a symbol, hops represent growth, connection and tradition, but I also feel they would make the perfect Valentine's Day gift for someone with a connection to Kent.

My aim is to create alternative romantic jewellery that celebrates the 'uniqueness' of love. As an independent artisan jeweller based in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, my aim is to create handmade British jewellery that feels honest, wearable and emotionally resonant.
