Gift for an Airedale Terrier lover

I was delighted to receive an email in the Spring of 2025 from a fellow Airedale owner and lover. She had lost her two beloved Airedales, Archie and Brodie and wanted to talk about having a piece made to commemorate them.

She wanted to commission a silver necklace, featuring her two beloved and much missed Airedales. It was to be a special reminder and memory of her love for them. She knew exactly how she wanted them to look and sent me an image, to base the piece on...

She wanted the dogs paws to be over a bar to remind her how Archie and Brodie sat at the top of the stairs with their paws hanging over. Here he is looking super cute.

Design

So I did some thinking and sketching and finalised the design.

Wax Carving

I asked my wax carver who is hugely talented and happens to be a specialist in animal carving. This is the wax she did for me; I was so excited to see the result, when it arrived and it did not disappoint, it was perfect!

So I set about working out which kind of chain would be best and also, where it should be positioned on the dogs, in order for it not to be intrusive and so that it would hang correctly.

Here is the resulting piece. Two Airedales one a little bit bigger than the other; a male and female pair.

Here is Eve modelling it for me, before I posted it off to the lady. She had been so kind and patient as I was about to leave for France, when she first got in touch with me.

Making a piece like this is an investment, if it is a 'one of a kind'. So we agreed that it would good for both of us, if I could somehow adapt the pattern, so I could make another Airedale piece, for me to sell online. This would take the cost down a bit for her and, being a fellow Airedale lover, I knew how nice it would be to add an Airedale, to my collection.

Dogs really connect you to people and I have met a few Airedale owners, since I have had my Rolo.

The recipient was really delighted with her new necklace and wrote this on her social media.

"In March when I was in a very dark place, I set about looking for someone to make me a special pendant, to remember my two beautiful and very much missed Airedales. By complete chance, I happened upon Catherine Hills Jewellery. A very talented lady who also owns a gorgeous Airedale, called Rolo. I knew that she understood how special these dogs are and completely "got it". She has crafted me this lovely pendant, I'm absolutely delighted with it."

Here is my new, single Airedale Pendant on trace chain. I chose the slightly smaller dog; it is 30mm in length x 35 mm in width. A perfect size for the pendant, big enough to show in detail the Airedale's facial features, complete with heavy eyebrows, moustache and beard.

Here is it being worn; it is the perfect gift for an Airedale owner. I had a look online and most dog pendants are very small with very little detail. So this piece is unusual and very realistic.

Silver Airedale Terrier Brooch

I will also have an Airedale brooch available soon , which is good for a gift for men, or for women like me, that enjoy a brooch on my lapel.

Here I am wearing it, I used the slightly larger dog 35mm in length x 40 mm in width.

Once you have had an Airedale, I think its very hard not to have one ! Thanks Rolo for coming into my life.
